Crittall Windows Now Certified Hurricane-Proof

A $100,000 investment has resulted in he Corporate 2000 Range being certified Hurricane Proof.

The Corporate 2000 range of steel windows have been successfully tested to meet the performance requirement of the ASTM E American Standards 1886-02 and 1996-02. ASTM E 1886-02, Standard Test Method for Performance of Exterior Windows, Curtain Walls, Doors and Storm Shutters Impacted by Missiles and Exposed to Cyclic Pressure Differentials. ASTM E 1996-02, Standard Specification for Performance of Exterior Windows, Glazed Curtain Walls, Doors and Storm Shutters Impacted by Wind Borne Debris in Hurricanes.

The rigorous testing took place at the Facility of Architectural Testing in York, Pennsylvania. Three units from each window type were tested - fixed lights, side hung open out, projected top hung open out and folding open out door. Each window/door had to withstand a large missile impact consistent with hurricane storm conditions of flying debris. An 8 foot long timber weighing 9.4 lbs was fired from a distance of 17 feet at a velocity of 49.4 fps.

The window/doors were then exposed to air pressure cycling of 4500 cycles in both a positive and negative pressure at a maximum design pressure of ± 60 psf. This corresponds to missile level D and wind zone 3 within the USA.
