Finnish Church Refurbishment

Finnish Church, London UK

Critall Corporate W20 Frames have been used in the refurbishment of the Finnish Church

Starting off as a temporary structure in Albion Street, Rotherhithe, the Finnish Church today is the newest of the Scandinavian churches in London and although a church in name, the Grade II listed building is far from being just an ecumenical place of worship. Incorporating offices and a community centre, the multi functional venue has been on the receiving end of a major makeover, with Crittall steel windows installed throughout the building to complete the transformation.

Crittall installed the original windows in 1955, when the building was first built and for architect, Robin Nugent, replacing like for like W20 sections was a natural decision. "I decided to use the same profiles as I am familiar with Crittall and its product range and as the company was instrumental in the original installation, it made perfect sense to re-employ the same 50 years later," comments Mr Nugent.

The W20 profile offers flexibility in design via shaped windows and has the ability to form extensive composite windows. Its design enables it to delivers very slim sightlines thus maximising the glazing. Manufactured from hot rolled mild steel section with a flat, square frame, the profiles offer versatility in size and shape options to accommodate all design requirements. Externally, the building has also benefited from Portland stone re-cladding, and the unobtrusive appearance of the W20 windows allows the architectural appeal of the front façade to stand out even more.

The Church has now been completely renovated, with internal work carried out on bathrooms, kitchens and even the mandatory Scandinavian sauna.
