Congratulations to the owners of this beautiful East London property chosen as our second runner up in the Crittall House of the Year Award 2022.

Having spent considerable time researching the steel door market, they decide to choose Crittall due to its quality, aesthetics and heritage.  Falling in love with the super slim profiles on Crittall doors, Crittall provided the perfect solution allowing them to have their own dream look for their new house extension and they felt that with their brave design, they would be in safe hands with Crittall based on our tradition, knowledge and experience in steel door manufacture.

Their long south-facing, sunny garden with mature tall trees provided a perfect back drop for the Crittall doors to frame and the owners love how the design has brought so much of the nature on the outside into their daily lives, with their eyes drawn outward with the specific arrow-like shape at the top of the installation.

The owners insisted on having a design that embodied symmetry and have 22 identical

squares in the wall of glazing.

Further flexibility was built into the design with two sets of double doors in the middle giving the design a robustness and sense of freedom throughout the year.  Their plan to achieve a wide opening of three metres in the centre was perfectly achieved when all four doors are open with the option of a variety of opening combinations.  Bespoke hardware was chosen to add an accent that matches the kitchen ironmongery and complement the London yellow stock brickwork on the exterior.

‘Crittall have allowed a timeless design that combines a classic exterior with a modern interior, demonstrating the designs’ versatility and its ability to fundamentally transform the space we live in every day.  Its impact is felt the moment one opens the entrance door to our house because the long corridor stretching from the entrance door to the extension practically points to the Crittall doors, which always make coming home special’ commented the owner.  ‘We would also like to thank Bespoke Glazing Design for excellent cooperation and being responsive before, during and after the installation’.  More …
