This case study shines the spotlight on a compelling project that secured a runner-up position in our 2025 Crittall House of the Year awards, thanks to its exceptional design ambition.
Inspiring design ambitions meet technical precision
This impressive South West London home was the result of a seamless collaboration between the specialist team at Bespoke Glazing Design and wider project partners, ADE Architecture and Sarah Brink Design.
At the heart of the renovation was a commitment to blend sophisticated design with technical excellence, creating interior spaces that were both architecturally stunning and highly functional. The central feature of the project, which captured the judges’ attention, was the use of bespoke Crittall pocket doors – a rare and technically demanding feature in residential settings – designed to deliver both architectural weight and flexibility.
The unique application of these internal pocket doors was key to shaping the home’s atmosphere. When closed, the steel profiles create strong, crisp lines beautifully framing each individual space, making purposeful and defined areas. However, when opened, these doors vanish entirely into the surrounding walls, creating a completely uninterrupted flow throughout the floorplan. Achieving this level of seamless operation and aesthetic integration demanded detailed coordination and technical expertise across the design, glazing and installation teams.
Functionality and precision
The successful execution of these pocket doors demonstrates how modern Crittall steel windows and doors goes far beyond aesthetics; it plays a critical role in shaping the functional use and experience of the house.
“Each time we pass through these doors, there’s a moment of transition that feels purposeful,” said the homeowner. “It’s a reminder of how good design can shape how we live.”
Following the renovation, the property is adaptable and can cater to the homeowner’s individual needs – offering defined privacy when needed, yet opening instantly for expansive entertaining and natural light filled living spaces.
Why this project was crowned a Crittall House of the Year runner-up
The judging panel selected this project as a Crittall House of the Year runner-up due to its high level of technical control and impressive use of Crittall products to redefine internal space. The bespoke pocket doors perfectly demonstrate precision engineering and show that Crittall steel can be fully integrated into complex, moving architectural features.
The way the doors shift from being a striking visual focal point to an invisible architectural element, means the homeowner has complete flexibility of their indoor living spaces. This combination of structural complexity and elegant simplicity secured its place among the top three projects of the year.
