Congratulations to the winners of the Crittall House of the Year Award 2022 with the amazing renovation of their art deco luxury holiday rental.

This period property was built in 1938 and had Crittall windows throughout.  The owners purchased the house in 2018 and all the windows needed to be replaced.  They didnt consider any alternative suppliers as they wanted to maintain the authentic look of the house which would be nothing without its fabulous windows.

‘Nothing shouts 1930’s elegance like original Crittall windows’ said the owners.  ‘We feel as though we are on the set of a Poirot shoot when we walk inside’.

Their home is situated in the foothills of Skiddaw in the Lake District.  Its one of the only art deco houses in the area and it manages to blend into its surroundings, yet stand out as

a beacon of modernism on the hillside.

It was built by a local family after they had been to California and fallen in love with the art deco style out there so they recreated a little bit of Hollywood glamour in the Cumbrian hills.

The house is currently run as a luxury holiday let and without fail the guests comment on the beauty of the windows and how perfectly they frame the views of the fells beyond.

The winners receive a well-deserved weekend package at the sumptuous Hampton Manor Hotel which includes a 15 course tasting menu and cookery class.
