Frequently Asked Questions

We understand you may have queries about our products and services. We’ve answered some of the most common questions below.

What are Crittall T60 windows?

Our T60 windows combine the design and look of Crittall’s traditional rolled steel profiles with contemporary materials to deliver an enhanced thermal barrier system.

Are T60 windows energy efficient?

Yes. Our T60 windows feature a high-density polyurethane isolator which acts as a thermal barrier. When combined with double or triple glazing, the system surpasses the requirements of current regulations.

Do T60 windows require a lot of maintenance?

Not at all. Our T60 windows are virtually maintenance free. They only need a simple clean every so often to keep them looking their best for many years to come.

Are T60 windows secure?

Yes. Our T60 windows come fully equipped with advanced security features including multipoint locking systems, strong frames, and toughened glazing.

Can I customise my T60 windows?

Being a thermally broken steel window manufacturer means our T60 windows are available in a range of customisation options including your choice of any RAL colour, hardware, and accessory options.

What is a thermal window?

A thermal window is a window specifically designed to improve a building’s energy efficiency. It usually combines insulated double or triple glazing with low-emissivity coatings, inert gas between the panes and a well-engineered frame, all working together to reduce heat loss, limit cold spots and improve comfort throughout the year.

Within the Crittall range, the most thermally efficient option is the T60® thermally broken steel window system. It incorporates an advanced thermal barrier in the frame and can accommodate high-performance double or triple glazing, achieving whole-window U-values as low as 0.8 W/m²K when specified correctly. This means you can retain the classic, slim Crittall aesthetic while meeting very demanding modern thermal performance standards.

Do thermally broken windows sweat?

Not usually – and certainly far less than non-thermally broken windows – but no window is completely immune to condensation. “Sweating” happens when warm, moist air inside a building meets a colder surface and reaches dew point. A thermally broken frame greatly improves the internal surface temperature of the steel, which reduces the likelihood of condensation forming on the frame and glazing.

However, if indoor humidity is high and ventilation is poor – for example in kitchens, bathrooms or very airtight homes – you may still see some condensation at times, even on high-performance, thermally broken windows. Good background ventilation, effective extraction and sensible heating, combined with a thermally broken Crittall system, will give you the best defence against window “sweat”.

How long do thermal windows last?

High-quality thermal windows should be thought of as a long-term investment. The steel frame and thermally broken profile are extremely durable and, with normal maintenance, can be expected to last several decades – typically 40–60 years or more. The insulated glass units (the double or triple glazing) are the component most likely to need attention first; as a rule of thumb, good quality glazing will often give around 20–30 years of service before seals may eventually degrade and the units need replacing. With a Crittall system, this usually means the glass can be renewed within the original steel frame, so the overall window can continue performing and looking good for many years beyond the life of the initial glazing.
